Years have gone by, friends have been made and even some friends lost while YAS has been in existence. Today is a bittersweet day as I mourn the loss of my husband one year ago today, (although the day is May 28th, today is the one year mark) and now the closing of a ministry that I hold so dear and held so dear for so long.
Others tell me they have been blessed when I was the one blessed. The many volunteers whether family, church or community and those receiving food have been my family for a long time and it is hard to say good bye. I have loved getting involved in their lives and their stories. Endings can be difficult but endings do happen in life and then life goes on anyway.
As of today, YAS will no longer be giving out food in need in our own community. Over the 12 years since we originally started we have given out over 1.4 million lbs of food to over 480,000 people. Some of them left me phone messages and some stopped by today to talk with us over donuts and coffee.
Thank you to all those who have served this community one bag at a time, one person at a time and I thank God for the opportunity to have been His hands and feet.
